A Boeing 737 sustained substantial damage after being struck by a deicing truck while parked at a gate in New York.

What happened

On January 8, 2020, at approximately 06:30 eastern standard time, an American Airlines Boeing 737-823, registration N929NN, was parked at gate C7 at LaGuardia Airport in New York, New York. The aircraft was scheduled for a domestic passenger flight to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

While the crew was performing preflight duties, the captain reported feeling the aircraft shudder. Upon looking out the window, the first officer observed a deicing truck positioned behind the right wing. The crew felt a second shudder as the deicing truck moved out from underneath the wing. The collision resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft, but there were no injuries among the 2 pilots, 4 flight attendants, or 115 passengers.
