What happened
During the initial climb phase following departure from Birmingham Airport, a twin engine airplane experienced a sudden aerodynamic stall. The aircraft's tail lost lift, causing the plane to adopt an extreme nose-up attitude. This loss of control led to a crash in the vicinity of the airport, where the aircraft caught fire upon impact.
There were 2 fatalities recorded in the accident, as both pilots on board perished during the event.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the crew failed to perform sufficient preflight preparations. A critical factor in the loss of control was that the cargo had not been properly secured within the cabin. As the aircraft climbed, the unsecured load shifted toward the rear of the plane, which induced the fatal pitch-up motion.
