A military transport aircraft crashed in a mountainous area of Fukushima, resulting in seven fatalities among the crew.

What happened

During a routine aerial refueling mission traveling from Misawa Air Base to Yokota Air Base, an aircraft experienced a sudden loss of control. The flight was carrying a total of 11 crew members at the time of the incident.

As the situation escalated, four members of the crew successfully exited the aircraft via bailout procedures. However, the remaining seven crew members on board perished when the plane impacted terrain in a mountainous section of the Fukushima region.

Findings

Following the completion of an initially stable refueling operation, the aircraft became uncontrollable, leading to the fatal impact.

The aircraft experienced a loss of control following a successful refueling mission.
