A maritime patrol aircraft crashed into a mountainside shortly after departing Adak Airport, resulting in the loss of all ten people on board.

What happened

Shortly after departing from Adak Airport for a scheduled maritime patrol mission, the aircraft struck a mountain slope on Little Tanaga Island. The impact occurred only minutes into the flight. Search efforts located the wreckage approximately 20 miles southeast of the departure airfield.

All 10 crew members aboard the aircraft perished in the accident. There were no survivors found at the crash site.
