What happened

During an approach to Paramaribo-Zanderij Airport, a four-engine aircraft impacted a hill situated approximately 68 km southeast of its intended destination. The terrain at the site of the impact reached an elevation of 1,716 feet. At the time of the accident, the flight was operating under poor weather conditions.

The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and caused 11 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants.

Findings

Investigations into the crash revealed that the crew initiated their descent toward the airport prematurely. Furthermore, the flight continued its approach at an altitude that was below the established minimum descent altitude. The primary factor in the accident was crew error during the descent phase.
