What happened

During a scheduled training mission originating from NAS Norfolk, the aircraft experienced a critical mechanical malfunction. While in transit, one of the engines ceased functioning properly, which subsequently led to a total loss of control over the aircraft.

Following the loss of stability, the plane descended into the waters located off Cape Henry, situated north of Virginia Beach. The impact resulted in the deaths of all seven crew members onboard the aircraft.

Findings

Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor leading to the crash was an engine failure during the flight phase.

Probable cause
