A training flight departing from Brownsville ended in a fatal crash near Caricitas, Mexico, after the crew lost radio contact during their mission.

What happened

A navigation training mission initiated from Brownsville Airport resulted in the loss of an aircraft and all occupants. Shortly after takeoff, the crew reported their position to ground controllers, noting they were traveling southeast of Brownsville toward a destination of Corpus Christi.

Following this communication, radio contact with the aircraft was lost. When the flight failed to reach its intended destination in Corpus Christi, search and rescue operations were launched. The wreckage of the aircraft was eventually located on the slope of a mountain reaching 3,000 feet near Caricitas, in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and caused ten fatalities.

Findings

Investigations into the incident noted that the aircraft was not following its assigned flight track toward Corpus Christi at the time of the disappearance.

Probable cause

The aircraft deviated from its intended flight path during the navigation mission, leading to the crash.
