7 fatalitiesParis-Le Bourget, FranceLanding (descent or approach)

A twin-engine aircraft crashed during its final approach to Paris-Le Bourget, resulting in the deaths of all seven people on board.

What happened

During a night arrival at Paris-Le Bourget runway 07, a twin engine aircraft was completing a charter flight from Torino-Caselle Airport. The flight was transporting two pilots and four journalists, including one representative from the AFP Agency.

As the crew performed the final approach, the area was experiencing heavy fog, which significantly restricted visibility. In an effort to locate the approach lighting system visually, the aircraft descended too low. This resulted in the plane striking the roof of a warehouse located in Garges-lès-Gonesse, approximately 2 km before reaching the runway threshold. The impact was followed by a post-crash fire that consumed the airframe. There were seven fatalities and no survivors.

Findings

Investigation into the accident suggests that the crew's attempt to maintain visual contact with the approach lights during low-visibility conditions led to an uncontrolled descent. The primary factor was the failure to maintain safe altitude while maneuvering through dense fog.

Probable cause

The crew descended below a safe altitude while attempting to visually acquire approach lights in foggy conditions.
