A training flight ended in a fatal crash near Christiansted-Alexander Hamilton Airport when the aircraft stalled during an approach.

What happened

During a local training mission operating out of Christiansted-Alexander Hamilton Airport, an aircraft experienced a loss of control while approaching the airfield from the north. The incident occurred in the Kinsghill area, situated approximately two miles north of the airport perimeter.

As the flight progressed through its approach phase, the airplane entered a stall, leading to a crash that resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were two fatalities among the crew members involved in the accident.

Findings

Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was a loss of control during a single-engine approach practice. The analysis indicated that the crew did not successfully maintain the necessary airspeed for safe flight and that there was insufficient flight supervision during the maneuver.

Probable cause

The aircraft entered a stall due to the crew's failure to maintain adequate airspeed while practicing single-engine approaches.
