SMA LANDS ON FIRST HALF OF RWY WITH DISABLED ACFT ON RWY.
Narrative
WHILE IN THE LNDG PATTERN A LIGHT SINGLE ACFT AHEAD OF ME LANDED AND APPARENTLY FLIPPED TO AN INVERTED POS. I COULD SEE AN AIRPLANE IN AN UNUSUAL POS FROM THE AIR BUT AT FIRST DID NOT REALIZE THAT HE HAD HAD AN ACCIDENT. I DID A LOW APCH/GAR AND SAW THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS UPSIDE DOWN BUT SAW NO OCCUPANTS EMERGING AND NO ACTIVITY ON THE GND INDICATING A RESPONSE FROM THE ARPT. I ADVISED UNICOM AND CONSIDERED THAT I MIGHT BE THE PERSON SOONEST ABLE TO RENDER AID; IF NEEDED. THE ACFT SHOWED NO SIGN OF BEING A HAZARD FROM MY VANTAGE POINT BUT WAS A FEW FT ON THE PAVEMENT; A FEW FT OFF; APPROX 2000 FT FROM THE THRESHOLD. I DETERMINED THAT I COULD LAND TO A FULL STOP WELL BEFORE REACHING THAT POINT AND DID SO. I TAXIED CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE THAT THE OCCUPANTS HAD ALIGHTED; SAW FUEL LEAKING; AND TAXIED WELL CLR. THIS ACTION MAY VIOLATE THE FARS REGARDING USE OF RWYS OCCUPIED; BUT I FELT IT TO BE A LEGITIMATE EXERCISE OF EMER AUTHORITY GRANTED TO A PIC TO DEVIATE FROM THE FARS TO THE EXTENT REQUIRED TO MEET AN EMER.
