2 ACFT ENTER OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SAME RWY FOR TKOF AT NIGHT.
Narrative
WHEN I DEPARTED; THE TWR WAS CLOSED BUT THE WINDS WERE CALM SO I TAXIED TO RWY 13L FOR TKOF. I MONITORED THE CTAF FREQ OF 121.0 THROUGHOUT MY TAXI AND HEARD NOTHING EXCEPT FOR A HELI LNDG ON THE RAMP. AS I PULLED OUT ONTO THE RWY FOR TKOF; I ANNOUNCED MY INTENTIONS ON 121.0; TURNED ON MY LNDG LIGHTS; AND ADVANCED PWR. AFTER REACHING 40-50 KTS; I OBSERVED LNDG LIGHTS AT THE FAR END OF THE RWY APPARENTLY COMING TOWARD ME. I ABORTED MY TKOF AND ANNOUNCED THAT FACT ON 121.0. I THEN OBSERVED THE CONFLICTING TFC TURN OFF THE RWY. ADEQUATE RWY REMAINED SO I AGAIN ANNOUNCED MY INTENTIONS ON 121.0 AND SUCCESSFULLY DEPARTED FROM THAT POINT. AS I FLEW PAST THE APCH END OF 31R; I OBSERVED A COMMUTER ACFT HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY. I DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH THAT ACFT ON 121.0. HE HAD TAXIED ONTO 31L FOR TKOF; HAD SEEN MY LNDG LIGHTS; AND HAD IMMEDIATELY CLRED THE RWY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NEITHER OF US HEARD THE OTHER PREPARING FOR TKOF UNLESS OUR TRANSMISSIONS BLOCKED EACH OTHER OUT. I WEAR A HEADSET IN MY ACFT AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH RADIO RECEPTION. I AM CONVINCED THAT THE USE OF LNDG LIGHTS FOR TKOF ON BOTH OUR PARTS ALLOWED US EACH TO SEE THAT A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC SITUATION WAS DEVELOPING AND TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS.
