Synopsis

C172 Pilot reported a runway excursion possibly due to a gear problem or winds at the airport.

Narrative

Inbound I switched to ZZZ approach and heard ZZZ was receiving complaints about crosswinds when using Runway XX. So they asked a pilot over the radio his opinion about where the winds were coming from. Information Juliet was in use. Winds 310 @13 gusting to (I believe 17). The winds were not too strong but were very gusty. I was cleared for runway XYL. The wind was strong from the left side of the aircraft (from west). I had handled stronger in the past. I landed; started rolling straight. Then I felt the plane dip to the right. I thought there may have been an issue with the right main gear or tire. The aircraft veered to the left (into the crosswind) I tried right rudder; aircraft continued left. I tried right brake; aircraft continued left. I'm now pointed at the grass. I tried both brakes; stopping on the grass. There were skid marks from the right tire none from the left. But the aircraft did not turn right. Emergency trucks came. The FSDO was notified. The mechanics met me at the ramp. No damage to airport property. No damage to aircraft. I was able to taxi back to the ramp with no further issues.
