UNAUTHORIZED PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE BY SMA PLT.
Narrative
FLYING IN A SINGLE ENG ACFT; I WAS INBOUND FROM THE N; PLANNING TO LAND AT SALT LAKE SKYPARK IN BOUNTIFUL; UTAH. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD FLOWN INTO THIS AREA. IN PLANNING FOR THIS FLT; I REFERRED TO A SALT LAKE SECTIONAL I HAD BORROWED FROM ANOTHER PLT. I HAD NOTED ON THIS SECTIONAL; THAT THE SALT LAKE AREA WAS BOUNDED BY AN ARSA WITH THE OUTER BOUNDARY TO THE N BEING NEAR THE OGDEN ARPT. AS I APCHED OGDEN FROM THE N; I CONTACTED THE OGDEN CTL TWR AND REQUESTED PERMISSION TO OVERFLY THE OGDEN CTL ZONE. THE OGDEN CTL TWR ACKNOWLEDGED MY RADIO XMISSION; AND GAVE ME PERMISSION TO OVERFLY THE OGDEN CTL ZONE. SHORTLY AFTERWARD; I MADE A RADIO CALL TO SALT LAKE APCH; STATING MY POS AND ALT; AND REQUESTING CLRNC TO LAND AT THE SALT LAKE SKYPARK IN BOUNTIFUL. SALT LAKE APCH CALLED BACK; ASKING ME TO RESTATE MY ALT AND POS; WHICH I RADIOED BACK TO HIM. SALT LAKE APCH THEN XMITTED TO ME THAT I HAD PENETRATED THE SALT LAKE TCA WITHOUT A CLRNC. APCH THEN DIRECTED ME TO TURN L 20 DEG AND DSND TO 6000 FT MSL. I WAS ALSO ASSIGNED A TRANSPONDER CODE AT THIS TIME. AFTER I CROSSED TO THE E SIDE OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY I-15; SALT LAKE APCH TOLD ME TO FLY S. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; SALT LAKE APCH CLRED ME TO LAND AT SALT LAKE SKYPARK. I THEN TURNED TO BASE FOR RWY 16 AT SALT LAKE SKYPARK; AND ON THE SKYPARK UNICOM FREQ; ANNOUNCED MY INTENTIONS TO LAND ON RWY 16 AT THE SKYPARK; WHICH I DID. AFTER TYING THE AIRPLANE DOWN; I CHKED THE SALT LAKE SECTIONAL AND FOUND THAT IT HAD BEEN PUBLISHED BEFORE THE SALT LAKE CITY TCA HAD BEEN PUT INTO PLACE; AND BASED ON THE SECTIONAL I HAD; I EXPECTED TO BE FLYING INTO THE SALT LAKE ARSA AND DID NOT REALIZE THAT A TCA HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED AROUND SALT LAKE. AS A RESULT OF THIS EXPERIENCE; I REALIZE THE NECESSITY OF ALWAYS CHKING NAV CHARTS TO BE SURE THEY ARE CURRENT.
