Synopsis

FLC LOST CTL OF ACR MLG WHEN UNEVEN ENG SPOOL UP OCCURRED AS TOGA BUTTON WAS ACTIVATED.

Narrative

WE WERE ACCOMPLISHING A ROLLING TKOF. I PUSHED THE THROTTLES UP TO THE RECOMMENDED INITIAL POS WHILE LINING UP WITH RWY. IT WAS THE FO'S LEG; SO HE TOOK OVER THE THROTTLES AND STEERING. #2 ENG WAS VERY SLOW TO SPOOL UP; THE FO PUSHED THE 'TOGA' BUTTON WITH #1 SPOOLED BUT #2 LAGGING BADLY. THE RESULTING ASYMMETRICAL THRUST CAUSED A STRONG TURNING MOMENT TO THE R. WITH #1 ENG STILL WELL BELOW TKOF PWR AND #2 SPOOLING; I PULLED BOTH TO IDLE AND DISCONNECTED THE AUTO-THROTTLES. WE THEN TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY. TWR ASKED THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM; I REPLIED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM; WE WEREN'T READY FOR TKOF. SINCE PWR WAS NOT SET FOR TKOF; I DON'T FEEL THIS WAS AN ABORTED TKOF SITUATION PER SE. SINCE THE TWR CTLR ASKED NO FURTHER QUESTIONS; WE ASSUMED HE CONCURRED. REGARDLESS OF MY PERCEPTION OF MY COPLT'S LEVEL OF COMPETENCE; I WILL NOW BRIEF EACH ONE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT PRESSING 'TOGA' UNTIL BOTH ENGS ARE SPOOLED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 188717. TWR CLRED US FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF WITH AN ACFT ON A 2 MI FINAL. COPLT WAS VERY RUSHED FROM THE START. EXTERNAL AIRSTART FIRST ENG IS UNUSUAL AND ACCOMPLISHED BY REF TO ABNORMAL PROCS. CAPT FAILED TO COMPLY WITH COMPANY PROCS OF EVENLY SPOOLED ENGS BEFORE PRESSING TOGA BUTTON.
