Synopsis

ZBW Center Controller reported handoff related issues with ZNY Center.

Narrative

I was working sector 20 with 25MIT down Q75. My sector was not busy at the time and I had 4 aircraft to space. I fulfilled my requirement on the first two. I did accidentally short 1 aircraft thinking he was on a different route. I then called NY sector 42 to ask if there was anything he could do to help me out. He knew that I was close to entering his airspace yet did not call me back in a timely manner so I took it upon myself to start vectoring aircraft to accomplish the MIT. All point outs were done and no loss of airspace. After shutting me off for Q75 the NY Controller started shutting me off for all southwest bound traffic. The IGN sector is not designed to spin aircraft let alone 10 at higher altitudes resulting in large turns. I asked for a D side to start figuring out exactly what was going on. We started rerouting as fast as we could. There is no excuse for what happened; the East coast cannot just be shut down. [I suggest] better communication between Boston; NY and Washington Center TMU units. There was absolutely no reason any of this should have happened.
