UPON GEAR RETRACTION AFTER TKOF FROM DTW L GEAR DOOR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. RECYCLED GEAR HANDLE -- NO HELP. EXTENDED LNDG GEAR. L MAIN LNDG GEAR DID NOT INDICATE DOWN AND LOCKED. RETRACTED LNDG GEAR. ASKED FOR RADAR VECTORS AND 5000 FT ALT FROM DTW DEP CTL. WAS GIVEN RADAR VECTORS FOR 2 HRS FOR TIME TO WORK ON PROBLEM. ATC EXTREMELY HELPFUL. ALL APPLICABLE PROCS FROM ACFT FLT MANUAL WORKED THROUGH TELEPHONE PATCH TO IAH MAINT CTL AND SEATTLE FOR FURTHER SUGGESTIONS. TRIED SEVERAL MANEUVERS TO DISLODGE LNDG GEAR TO NO AVAIL. AFTER 2 HRS OF TRYING ALL REAL SUGGESTIONS AND APCHING MIN FUEL; MADE PREPARATIONS FOR EMER LNDG. THOROUGH BRIEF FROM CAPT AND LANDED. DID THE BEST WE COULD. NO INJURIES TO 7 CREW; 127 PAX. MIN DAMAGE TO ACFT. NOW LOOKING BACK ON THIS INCIDENT WE HAD EVERYTHING IN OUR FAVOR EXCEPT THE JAMMED LNDG GEAR. THE WX WAS IDEAL; WE HAD PLENTY OF FUEL; ATC WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL; WE HAD OUR MAINT PEOPLE AND MANUFACTURER FOR ADDITIONAL IDEAS; THE CAPT'S LEADERSHIP; PUBLIC RELATIONS; AVIATION SKILLS WERE EXCEPTIONAL. THE SO WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FULL OF IDEAS. FLT ATTENDANTS VERY PROFESSIONAL.
