FLC DURING TAXI SMELLED SMOKE AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER INST PANEL. CAPT OPENED CABIN COCKPIT DOOR AND INSTRUCTED CABIN ATTENDANT TO CONDUCT PAX EVAC. REAR CABIN ATTENDANT NEVER GO THE WORD. ONLY 2 FORWARD SLIDES EXTENDED; 2 PEOPLE INJURED.

Narrative

TAXIING ACFT AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. STOPPED ACFT ON TAXIWAY. SMELL BECAME WORSE. SMOKE BEGAN TO COME OUT OF THE INST PANEL. WE NOTIFIED TWR TO SEND THE EQUIP. TURNED OFF BOTH ENG GENERATORS. CAPT VERBALLY BRIEFED FLT ATTENDANT TO EVAC ACFT BOTH FORWARD AND AFT POS. BOTH ENGS WERE SHUT DOWN. EMER PWR WAS SWITCHED ON. WE THEN RAN THE EMER CHKLIST. SMOKE DISSIPATED. EVAC PROCEEDED NORMAL. OUTCOME: 4 INJURED. NOTE: ONLY FORWARD 2 SLIDES DEPLOYED. AFT SLIDES WERE NOT DEPLOYED. THE FLT ATTENDANTS IN THE REAR WERE NOT AWARE OF WHAT WAS TAKING PLACE AND DID NOT DEPLOY REAR CHUTES. WITH ALL PWR OFF THE ACFT; THE PA WILL NOT WORK UNTIL EMER PWR IS TURNED ON. SO THE REAR FLT ATTENDANTS DID NOT GET THE WORD. BECAUSE THE SMOKE HAD DISSIPATED AND THE EVAC WAS PROCEEDING NORMALLY; I DID NOT GO TO THE REAR OF THE ACFT AND WAS NOT AWARE ONLY THE FORWARD 2 CHUTES WERE DEPLOYED AND NOT THE AFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 190729: TAXIING FOR TKOF ON TAXIWAY N (RWY IN USE 22R) SMELLED SMOKE THEN SHORTLY THEREAFTER SMOKE VISIBLY COMING FROM INST PANEL. STOPPED ACFT (SHUT OFF GENERATORS; ELECTRICAL FIRE). SMOKE CONTINUED. OPENED COCKPIT DOOR. TOLD FLT ATTENDANT WE NEED TO EVAC THE PEOPLE. TOLD FLT ATTENDANT HE COULD USE FRONT AND REAR EXITS. PERFORMED EMER EVAC CHKLIST. DID NOT GIVE 'EASY VICTOR; EASY VICTOR' CALL. DID NOT WANT THAT FEELING IN AIR -- GIVES FEELING OF 'RUN FOR YOUR LIFE'. WHEN IT CAME TIME IN CHKLIST FOR THAT COMMAND; SMOKE HAD LEVELED OFF AND FLT ATTENDANT HAD THINGS GOING VERY NICELY. EMER PWR HAD BEEN OFF BRIEFLY (1 MIN). BTWN TALKING TO FLT ATTENDANT AND TURNING EMER PWR ON; EVAC CHKLIST; AT THAT SHORT TIME FLT ATTENDANT COULD NOT COM WITH BACK END FLT ATTENDANTS. I DID NOT PERUSE PROBLEM BECAUSE THINGS WERE GOING NICELY. ONLY FRONT 2 SLIDES WERE USED AS RESULT. 1 WOMAN BROKE LEG. 1 HURT ANKLE. ENTIRE CREW; INCLUDING DEAD HEADING FLT ATTENDANTS WHO WERE ASSISTING; WERE DRUG TESTED. NO REASON FOR THIS. THIS TREATMENT WAS ABUSIVE. WHEN WE HAD RPTED FOR DUTY AT XX AM THAT MORNING FOR AN XA AM TKOF; WE WERE EXHAUSTED AND FINALLY GOT TO A HOTEL AT XXXX.
