Synopsis

EMB-135 Captain reported a loss of electrical power caused multiple systems failures on descent. The flight crew requested priority handling and made a precautionary landing at destination airport.

Narrative

During descent into ZZZ with FO flying; suddenly heard loud clacking and thudding underneath cockpit loud enough that we thought the landing gear doors were opening and closing. Immediately after the EICAS (Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System) was filled with warnings and cautions. Several flight instruments failed; turned off and on with red x's periodically coming off and on. The magnitude of issues made it almost impossible to find a cause. I lost the ability to communicate through my headset until I selected COMM2 at which point I could communicate with my FO and ATC. Immediately thereafter I requested priority with ATC and asked for priority to ZZZ. The Captain's side PFD (Primary Flight Display); MFD (Multi-Function Flight Display); FMS and RMU (Radio Management Unit) failed. The FO's side PFD including AHRS and FMS remained on the autopilot remained engaged as he was flying. The clacking and thudding slowed and became intermittent at which point our focus was entirely on flying to the airport and landing ASAP as we were close to ZZZ.I took the controls and disengaged the autopilot out of concern that given the magnitude of our electrical failure the autopilot should not be trusted. I made contact with the Flight Attendant and informed her of the situation and to ensure everyone was seated. Several flight instruments remained failed from the onset of the issue. Periodically on descent the clacking and thudding would return followed by red Xs and screens turning off/on and several EICAS messages. I also had brought up the electrical page and noticed that busses including the essential would periodically turn amber. After obtaining a direct clearance to ZZZ the remainder of the descent and landing was uneventful with the issue periodically manifesting. A large electrical system fault. The aircraft needs to have an intensive maintenance event to determine the cause this issue to ensure it does not occur again.
