Ground employee reported better service road traffic signs are needed at DEN airport. Signs would enhance safety and highlight positions of the correct drop-off and pick-up baggage and cargo locations.

Narrative

Navigation and wayfinding on 'Vehicle Service Roads' is hazardous due to lack of proper signage outside of makeup areas throughout the B concourse. The lack of clear and proper signage outside of makeup baggage areas creates a distracting environment by diverting drivers attention and focus from the vehicle service roads while searching for makeup locations. Too much time is spent searching for specific makeup destinations because of this lack of signage. The loss of focus on service roads while driving is a potential causation of coworker/pedestrian accidents and equipment damage.According to the US Department of transportation (USDOT) 'Manual on uniform traffic control devices':Section 1A.01. 01. The purpose of traffic control devices; as well as the principles for their use; is to promote highway safety and efficiency by providing for the orderly movement of all road users on streets; highways; bikeways; and private roads open to public travel throughout the Nation. 02.Traffic control devices notify road users of regulations and provide warning and guidance needed for the uniform and efficient operation of all elements of the traffic stream in a manner intended to minimize the occurrences of crashes.Years of USDOT research has proven that proper signage on roadways is imperative to safe and efficient driving. It would be beneficial for our company to follow DOT standards for signage on airport operation service roads to improve safety and efficiency of our baggage operations.
