Synopsis
GA pilot reported a runway incursion occurred at VGT airport; citing distractions and visibility from his tail wheel aircraft as contributing.
Narrative
On short final to Runway 30L at VGT; I experienced either fairly moderate to severe wake turbulence or wind shear; so I executed a go around. On the go; Tower then switched me to [Runway] 30R and switched me to a different Tower frequency. Upon landing rollout Runway 30R; Tower advised [me] to exit Taxiway C and hold short of Runway 30L. I acknowledged and read back the clearance. As I was exiting the runway onto Taxiway C; Tower started asking me about the wind shear conditions. As I was attempting to respond and describe what I experienced; I must have crossed the hold short line which was a considerable distance back from the entrance to Runway 30L itself. I was in a tail wheel aircraft; so I was having trouble seeing ahead while trying to respond to the Tower's request. I incorrectly thought the hold short line was closer to the entrance to the runway as I was unfamiliar with the interior taxiway configurations between the two parallel runways. At that point the Tower said to stop and I immediately stopped well short of the active runway and there were no other aircraft nearby that were a conflict. She said on the radio there was a possible deviation. After a while; once the runway was clear; she taxied me across and I exited without incidence. I absolutely missed the hold short line as I was not expecting it so far from the runway; but I was also distracted with trying to describe the wind shear/wake turbulence situation while still rolling. In addition; I was dealing with an airsick pax; so I had the further distraction from wanting to get him to the ramp and shutdown. Those are not excuses in the slightest; just the situation I was dealing with for context. The obvious lesson learned is I should instead have told the Controller to stand by; exited the runway; stopped and then complied with the request for further information.
