Narrative
After we took off; I noticed radios flickering on and off. I turned off unnecessary lights to see if that would help and it did momentarily but the issue continued shortly thereafter. Before taking off; we fueled the aircraft to maximum capacity which gives us about 4 and a half hours of flight time. At this point we were about 30 minutes into the flight when I realized my fuel gauges showing that I had a lot less fuel than I knew I should have at this portion of the light. I kept an eye on that but suggested we turn back and conclude our flight. At this point I tried making calls to ZZZ Tower to let them know we intend to return and make a full stop but was not getting anything back from them. I got the weather by tuning into the ASOS frequency which was hard to do because the radios were intermittent and frequencies took a while to change. 10 minutes had elapsed through this and by now one fuel gauge was pointing at (E) and the other at about a quarter tank left. I checked to see if there was a fuel leak by any chance but there wasn't and I had checked the fuel caps before taking off after filling up the aircraft. I knew we had fuel in the tanks but this was still an uneasy feeling. I stayed calm and proceeded towards ZZZ while continuing trying to contact them. We were about 6 miles away from the airport when I realized there was a popped circuit breaker and it was the alternators. I then immediately went through my checklist for this type of event and brushed up on procedures. Once I could see what runways were in use and was about 500 feet above the traffic pattern rocked my wings to advice of my situation and could faintly hear the Tower communicating to aircraft in the pattern about my situation and clearing them so we could land. I had to land without flaps but did so safely and cleared the active runway immediately after and parked the airplane on the first ramp next to the taxiway. I called the Tower right after and explained to them our situation; they congratulated us on making it down safe and mentioned we had done an excellent job in terms of procedures for that specific priority landing.
