Synopsis

C182 Pilot reported encountering a crosswind on the takeoff roll which resulted in a runway excursion and contact with a taxiway sign.

Narrative

Wind 310 at 9; no LLWS or low level turbulence airmet. Prior to take-off roll; the windsock indicated consistently as AWOS reported. During take-off roll from Runway XX at ZZZ; at proximitely 50 KIAS; the aircraft began a sudden veering to the left. Pilot applied full right rudder input and idled the power as a corrective action. As the aircraft slowed down; it began to turn right and back towards the centerline. During this process the left main wheel briefly went off the runway edge and the outside of the left wheel fairing hit a taxiway sign as the aircraft was steered to the right and back towards runway centerline. The aircraft then was taxi-ed off the runway and parked at transient for further inspection. Pilot noticed the windsock then was indicating a direct left crosswind at about 15 knots.Pilot immediately notified aircraft on UNICOM frequency to look out for possible debris on the runway and called the airport manager for runway inspection. As it turned out; the taxi sign for taxiway D; at the northwest corner of the intersection between D and 30 was knocked over. No apparent damage to the wheel faring or any other component of the aircraft upon preliminary inspection.
