Synopsis

Flight Crew reported loss of Engine #2 Yellow System Hydraulic System Pump. The flight crew performed an air turn back and precautionary landing at departure airport.

Narrative

On initial climb out; we got a 'HYD Y ENG 2 PUMP LO PR' ECAM message. No quick action or ECAM exception; so we followed the ECAM actions. This directed us to turn off the yellow hydraulic pump; which caused the PTU to take over the yellow system. We then read through the follow up items in the QRH; and started to make a plan. The Captain gave me the aircraft and proceeded to contact Dispatch and Maintenance for their opinion on the situation. It was concluded that we would return to ZZZ; and I then began coordinating the return to the field. Since we would be an overweight landing; we [requested priority handling] and received priority handling to the runway of our choice with emergency vehicles standing by. We requested that Approach Control vector us around in a box pattern over the airfield while we ran all the appropriate checklist and made all the appropriate communications/preparations. Once everything was complete; and we were comfortable to commence the approach; the Captain flew the ILS/Visual to XXR for a landing well within overweight tolerances. Once clear of the runway; we had the emergency equipment check us over for hot brakes or any other visible issues; and requested they follow us to the gate. We then taxied back to the gate and deplaned.

Second reporter narrative

On climb out ; ECAM HYD Y ENG 2 Pump LO PR. ECAM action preformed as ECAM. QRH follow up and status page reviewed. Returned to ZZZ to do a non normal overweight landing. All checklist procedures where accomplished while receiving ATC vectors as a [priority] flight. We landed safely with no damage to aircraft.
