ON 10/THURS/91; I FLEW MY FLYING CLUB'S SMA FROM SMITH FIELD IN FT WAYNE; IN; TO A SMALL ARPT SO OF MARION; IN. BEFORE LEAVING; I LISTENED TO THE NATL WX SVC FORECAST FOR THE AREA WHICH CALLED FOR CLR SKIES WITH LIGHT WINDS ALL DAY. I DID NOT GET A WX BRIEFING FROM A FSS. WHEN I DEPARTED RWY 23 AT SMD I NOTICED A SVC TRUCK AT THE SW END OF THE RWY WHICH WAS NOT VISIBLE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TKOF ROLL. I THOUGHT IT CURIOUS THAT A VEHICLE WOULD BE IN THAT LOCATION AT THAT TIME; BUT DID NOT GIVE IT MUCH FURTHER THOUGHT. WHEN I RETURNED TO SMITH ABOUT 3 HRS LATER; THE FBO TOLD ME THAT RWY 23 HAD BEEN CLOSED ALL DAY. THE FBO ALSO TOLD ME THAT SHE HAD TRIED TO REACH ME BY RADIO BEFORE MY EARLIER DEP; BUT WAS UNABLE TO MAKE CONTACT. I BELIEVE I WAS ON ANOTHER FREQ AT THE TIME TALKING TO FWA APCH REGARDING MY TRANSIT OF THE ARSA WHICH TOOK PLACE IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF. SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE WORKERS WHO WERE WORKING ON THE RWY WERE VERY UPSET ABOUT MY FLYING OVER THEM. I SHOULD HAVE STAYED ON THE LCL FREQ FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER ANNOUNCING DEP TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY REPLY. ALSO; IF I HAD OBTAINED A BRIEFING; I WOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE NOTAM THAT RWY 23 WAS CLOSED.
