Synopsis
Cessna 182 pilot reported an electrical failure approximately 12 miles from the destination. Receiving light gun signals from the tower; the pilot landed safely.
Narrative
During a return flight from ZZZ1 to ZZZ I experienced complete communications and electrical failure. At approximately XA57 I received and error message on my Nav/Com 1 stating 'Com overtemp or under voltage. Reducing transmitter power.' Shortly thereafter the autopilot disengaged and I began receiving multiple error messages. I immediately contacted ZZZ Tower approximately 12 mile SE of the airport- during attempted transmissions I noted that the dual screens were flickering. Communication was established with ZZZ albeit broken. I noticed Tower of the communications issue and anticipated complete electrical failure. Tower instructed me to ident if I was able to hear their transmission which I did. Instructed to report a midfield left downwind to Runway XX and expect light gun signals from the Tower in the advent of com loss. By XB00 I lost all electrical components and was operating on my backup. Upon entering the left downwind to Runway XX I was able to visualize the light gun signals from the Tower indicating it was safe to land. I performed a no flap landing on Runway XX without incident. Upon landing I contacted ZZZ Tower via landline for taxing instructions and debriefed the incident.
