Synopsis

Flight Crew reported a rejected take off was caused by a Right Engine Failure. The Flight Crew requested ARFF to inspect the engine; then taxied to the gate.

Narrative

On takeoff roll; power stabilizing at takeoff power of 88.1%; right engine failed with accompanying EICAS (Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System) message of 'ENG FAIL R' and with significant yaw. Airspeed was approximately 65 KIAS. Takeoff discontinued and we stopped aircraft on the Runway XXL at ZZZ. Tower notified and they responded that our right engine was trailing smoke. Engine instruments; N2 showed '0' RPM. There was no fire indication in the cockpit. We elected to secure the engine using the QRC - ENG SVR DAMAGE/SEP L; R. We requested ARFF (Airport Rescue and Firefighting) met us on the runway. Communication established with cabin crew and PA made to the passengers. ARFF Commander reported fuel coming off bottom of engine. We elected to remain in place until that resolved. Once confirmed the right engine was secure we elected to taxi clear of the runway with fire truck in trail and return to the gate. Maintenance met aircraft and debriefed on the event. Passengers were deplaned and met by ZZZ Agents. The ARFF team remained at aircraft until engine cooled.
