Air carrier Pilot reported GPS jamming.
Synopsis
Air carrier Pilot reported GPS jamming.
Narrative
Familiar with enroute and terminal NOTAMs of routine GPS jamming during enroute cruise in ZZZZ1; ZZZZ2; and ZZZZ FIR's. During the cruise portion of this flight; apparently there was an operation that had begun in the area. Was not aware of that until after landing; when some of the inflight crew informed us. We discussed the GPS threat as part of briefings. Generally spoofing has not been an issue in the terminal area; but it was highlighted as part of the briefing. XX2 so highlighted was the FM GPS Interference procedure; to be utilized if the jamming continued into the terminal area. As we flew the approach; the jamming continued onto the arrival; I decided to proceed with the GPS Interference checklist as we maneuvered onto the initial approach segment to prevent false EGPWS warnings and NAV Unable RNP messages; as the jamming appeared to be going to stay into the terminal area. [Although the] operation was going on; that we were not aware of at the time; the arrival and approach were normal. The approach was an ILS; so that was not an issue as we would be using ground based Nav aids. I was aware of the spoofing back in Date when we communicated to the Fleet and the GPS Interference procedure was developed. We did receive jamming through the approach and the NAV Unreliable RNAV message; but we had complied with the procedure and no EGPWS warnings occurred. ILS Approach and landing were normal on Runway XX. It would have been nice if we were informed of the [operation] as a security message to the flight when it began; as we could have used that information in our threat assessment for the last part of the flight; but we would have still briefed the GPS Interference procedure. However; if crews were not aware of that procedure; a message from Dispatch; may had prompted them to that procedure to mitigate the threat in the approach area. There was no new NOTAM for interference in the terminal area; just the usual enroute NOTAMs for interference; which is usually in the cruise phase; not always spoofing in the terminal area.
