Synopsis

B777 flight crew reported both right engine fire detection loops failed so they diverted to the nearest airport.

Narrative

At 32000 ft. approximately 1 hour into the flight; we got an EICAS warning 'Fire Det Engine R'. The aircraft already was deferred with one R fire loop detector inoperative. With the second loop failure; we had no fire detection at all on the right engine. I continued to fly and assumed the radio responsibilities while the Captain first went through the non-normal checklist (there is no procedure for that malfunction) and then made the Satcom call to the Company Dispatch and Maintenance assets on the ground. The Relief Pilot made it up to the cockpit from his break and helped coordinate with the cabin crew. While the Captain was busy with the company; I began determining possible divert locations available to us in case that became a reality. After the Captain conferred with Maintenance and Dispatch; and then with myself and the Relief Pilot; we all agreed the most prudent thing to do was to divert to the nearest suitable airport. We determined ZZZZ was the airport most suitable. We considered ZZZZ1 and ZZZZ2. ZZZZ was the closest and had good weather. The Captain the [requested priority handling with] the Controllers. We were instructed to enter present position hold for fuel dumping and our clearance coordination to ZZZZ. We entered a present position hold and began dumping fuel to our max landing weight less burn to ZZZZ. We had XXX.X entering the hold and at the start of dumping which happened pretty much simultaneously. We dumped down to 93 thousand and landed at approximately 553 thousand under maximum landing weight. The arrival and landing into ZZZZ was uneventful.

Second reporter narrative

During pre-flight it was noted that the aircraft had a maintenance write up detailing a faulty fire detection loop. The rest of the pre-flight and the departure were normal. Shortly after my rest period began; I was in the pilot rest facility and received a call from the Captain saying that we were deviating and to report the flight deck. Once in the flight deck; I was informed that the other loop on same engine had failed. The decision to divert to the nearest suitable airport; ZZZZ; had already been made and requested to ATC. The divert was fully coordinated with Dispatch and the cabin crew and passengers were informed. The rest of the flight was uneventful. After landing; we worked with Maintenance as they worked on the problem. Troubleshooting showed a failure of the fire test.
