Synopsis
Caravan 208B pilot on a straight in approach reported a NMAC with an aircraft turning final from a base leg. The reporter stated ATC was not providing sufficient traffic information to aircraft in the pattern.
Narrative
I called Tower 9 miles west of ZZZ inbound and was told to report a 3 mile base for XXR and there were three other aircraft inbound from the same direction. I was given no other traffic advisories as I continued inbound; but I had a company Caravan in sight as I continued my approach. When I called a 3 mile base; Tower told me 'Number three; cleared to land XXR'. As I was still given no traffic advisories I asked Tower 'where is my traffic to follow?' Tower called the Cessna and requested a position check; the Cessna told him he was still behind the Caravan on final. I had my company Caravan on final in sight; I saw a Cessna behind him on final and told Tower 'I might have traffic in sight'. I prepared to turn final and looked to my left before I turned and saw a Cessna less than 200 ft. below turning final right in front of me.I pulled up and banked away and to the north; briefly headed away from the field before turning back to join final. I had overshot final and as I was correcting on course the controller said 'cleared to land number two; I see your S Turns; thank you.' I was still very close to the aircraft on final l and asked Tower if anyone was landing the parallel runway. I was told there is traffic on final; landing the parallel. I continued to slow down to try give myself more space; I was now short final and Tower told me that actually traffic on the parallel was on the ground. I felt I was too close to the ground to request switching runways and continued; but I had to use power to remain in the air so traffic ahead of me could taxi off the runway. Tower did not give proper traffic advisories to any traffic inbound to the airport. I could have been told to slow down to follow a 207 or widen out a base. Tower did not use proper sequencing when having multiple aircraft entering the pattern from the same direction; and multiple instances when I did not believe there was proper spacing in the airspace.Better traffic sequencing in the airspace; and better traffic advisory calls. ATC should be familiar with aircraft to know better how to sequence or request aircraft to slow down or change the base/downwind as needed. Pilots should be extra aware in the Class Delta and double check all traffic calls.
