P-180 Avanti flight crew reported cockpit windscreen shattered inflight.
Synopsis
P-180 Avanti flight crew reported cockpit windscreen shattered inflight.
Narrative
Departed ZZZ with 6 people on board in addition to two pilots just before XA00 after a normal reposition from ZZZ1-ZZZ earlier that morning. Normal climb out operations all the way up to FL320. About 5 minutes after level off and just prior to ZZZZZ intersection a significant pop was heard and the copilot's windshield cracked. I immediately informed ATC and after slowing the plane to not put excess pressure on the window we began an [priority] descent with vectors 280 and down to 11;000 while looking for suitable airports to divert into. We determined ZZZ2 would be the closest about the same time it was suggested by ATC. The crew donned oxygen masks in the event of a depressurization; however; the airplane never lost pressurization and no passenger oxygen was deployed. We got cleared direct and began obtaining weather and setting up for Runway XX. We configured normally and landed without incident. Spoke with airport rescue services as well as calls with Approach Control and eventually the FSDO to pass along information on the event. The inner glass was found to be the shattered layer but with the cause being unknown corrective action to be determined by the pilots would be difficult. Pressurization is a possibility as well as perhaps a heating element issue though both systems were setup and used normally as any prior flights to higher altitudes and pressure differentials.
Second reporter narrative
Flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1; 6 passengers plus two crew on Piaggio P.180 Avanti 1. Shortly after leveling off in cruise at FL320; both crew filling out logs while continuously monitoring flight instruments and navigation. Both crew hear a thud sound against windscreen. Both crew look up to investigate and notice entire right side windscreen cracked. Cabin altitude showed no abnormalities through the entire flight. Windshield heat running all flight as well. Captain began [priority] descent and [advised ATC]. Both crew donned oxygen mask; advised passengers of [priority] diversion. Diverted aircraft to ZZZ2 airport where proceeded to make normal landing. Cabin pressurization never lost through entire event.
