COMPANY EMPLOYEE PRESENTED COCKPIT AUTHORITY TO CAPT FOR TRANSPORTATION AND WAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO RIDE EMPTY SEAT IN CABIN. POST DEP CAPT REALIZED EMPLOYEE WAS A CABIN ATTENDANT AND HAD BEEN GIVEN COCKPIT AUTHORIZATION.

Narrative

I'M NOT SURE IF I WAS HAD; FOOLED; OR JUST DIDN'T PLAY DETECTIVE ENOUGH. AT THE TIME THE JUMP SEAT REQUEST WAS FORWARDED TO ME IT WAS SHORTLY BEFORE DEP. WE HAD ARR IN IND AFTER A CAT I APCH TO MINS WITH SNOW. MY THOUGHTS AND EFFORTS WERE ON THE DEICING AND TIMELY DEP FROM IND. I QUICKLY EXAMINED THE IDENT AND THE JUMP SEAT FORM. AS I GLANCED AT THE RIDER I SAW THE STRIPES ON THE UNIFORM AND ASSUMED IT WAS A PLT. I WAS CONFUSED WHEN I SAW THE FLT ATTENDANT ON THE FORM. THE FORM IS ALSO USED ONLY BY PLTS. WE OFTEN RUN OUT OF THE CORRECT FORMS AND SUBSTITUTE A FORM OF SIMILAR DESIGN. IT WAS TIME TO GO AND TIME FROM DEICE TO TKOF IS IN MY MIND SO I SAID SIT IN THE CABIN IN AN OPEN SEAT. I WAS SATISFIED THAT THE RIDER WAS AN EMPLOYEE. ON THE WAY TO LGA AFTER THE WORKLOAD DECREASED I REALIZED I OK'ED A FLT ATTENDANT TO RIDE THE FLT ATTENDANT JUMP SEAT AND OCCUPY AN OPEN CABIN SEAT USING A FLT DECK PASS. I DO NOT NORMALLY SEE FLT ATTENDANT JUMP SEAT RIDERS AS THE SENIOR FLT ATTENDANT NORMALLY HANDLES THIS. THIS IS ONE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO RIDE THE JUMP SEAT BUT SLIPPED THROUGH THE CRACK WHEN I WAS FOCUSED ON THE SAFETY OF FLT. OOPS! TRULY AN OOPS WHILE I WAS CAUGHT BY SURPRISE.
