Synopsis

Ramp Agent reported his glove was ingested by the air conditioning pack ground air cooling inlet during ground operations. The flight crew and Maintenance were notified and the glove was removed.

Narrative

My glove was ingested into what at the time I believed was the APU inlet. Later; I discovered that the inlet was for the air packs. I approached the fuselage and began to lean on the aircraft using my right arm in order to bend down. My left-hand glove was in my right hand and as I touched the aircraft; the left-hand glove was ingested. The glove was no longer in my right hand; and immediately next to the place I placed my hand; was an inlet that sucked air into the aircraft. The outside temperature was low 30s and because it was windy; the wind chill was below freezing. After being outside for a period of about 80+ minutes for the offloading and then the loading of the cargo onto the aircraft; my hands were very cold. I was attempting to warm them by placing them underneath the aircraft where the heated exhaust is discharged. We are required to be outside for a minimum of 45 minutes for the loading of the aircraft. The management team at ZZZ requires this regardless of the load factor. The first bag has to be loaded and scanned by a hand-held computer at a minimum of 38 minutes before the scheduled departure time. I immediately went to the flight deck and notified the captain and the first officer. There was also an aircraft mechanic on the jet-bridge; and I also made him aware of the situation. Better training as to ALL the dangerous parts of all aircraft; a less stressful work environment; (we are mortified to cause a delay for any reason at all and I will probably be reprimanded for this incident); and the Company should be concerned more with the safety of its employees; rather than the success of the operation (it is all about numbers; and they overlook work rules when it is convenient; but it does not hesitate to reprimand us for the slightest mistakes and accidents). There is no more 'coach and counsel'; rather they conduct investigations for the purposes of punishing us.
