Narrative

OUR ACFT WAS TRACKING DIRECT TO THE NOTTINGHAM VOR AT 14000 FT ON THE 330 DEG RADIAL WITH CLRNC TO INTERCEPT V33; FLT PLAN RTE. V33 IS THE 184 DEG RADIAL. APPROX 5 MI NW OF THE OTT VOR; WASHINGTON DEP ISSUED TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK AND 10 MI; LEVEL AT 13000. I RESPONDED 'NEGATIVE TFC' AND CONTINUED SEARCHING VISUALLY AND REDUCED TCASII SETTING TO 10 NM. APCH ISSUED THE ACR Y MLG OUR POS AND ALT. ACR Y RESPONDED TFC IN SIGHT. I NOW HAD THE TFC ON TCASII SHOWING 8 MI AND -900 FT. APCH CLRED ACR Y TO MAINTAIN VISUAL CONTACT; CLB AND MAINTAIN SOME ALT ABOVE OURS. I IMMEDIATELY STATED TO THE CAPT WE WERE GOING TO BE RECEIVING AN RA. WE RECEIVED THE RA AND I XMITTED TO APCH THAT ACR Y WAS TURNING R TOWARD US. APCH QUERIED ACR Y WHO STATED THEY HAD US IN SIGHT AS THEY CLBED THROUGH OUR ALT 1 1/2 MI N OF US. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED WE HAD PASSED THE VOR AND HAD FAILED TO TURN R AND INTERCEPT V33. I TOLD THIS TO THE CAPT AS APCH REISSUED A CLRNC TO INTERCEPT V33. I NOW REALIZE APCH CTL WAS ANTICIPATING OUR R TURN SBOUND TO HELP WITH THE SEPARATION. OUR VISUAL SEARCHING; TCASII INTERPRETATION; AND VOR PASSAGE LOADED US UP.
