Synopsis
Air Carrier Captain reported a chemical/musty odor during descent. The odor was eliminated by completing the QRH procedures and flight continued to destination where maintenance was requested.
Narrative
While descending through 6;000 ft.; a moderate chemical/musty odor was detected in the cockpit. Immediately referenced and accomplished Flight Crew Operations Manual (FCOM) Odor Recognition and Isolation Guidance step X. and selected ENG BLEED 1 - OFF. The odor either dissipated or became undetectable after approximately two (2) minutes from the initial actions. After landing; with the APU OFF and both engines running; returned PACK configuration to normal and immediately detected the same odor; although now with much more irritating; offensive; noxious; and strong characteristics. Immediately after detection; returned PACK configuration IAW FCOM Odor Recognition and Isolation Guidance; with the additional step of selecting ENG BLEED 1 - OFF. Once at the gate and after Parking Checklist was completed; accomplished FCOM Odor Recognition and Isolation Guidance step Y; logbook entry completed; Cabin Odor Sheet completed; discussion accomplished with ZZZ mechanic at aircraft; Dispatch notified and Maintenance Control notified. Queried Cabin Crew and was informed that there was no odor detected in the cabin. ZZZ Maintenance Control noted that this aircraft was the 'second NEO with an odor event in ZZZ today'.After de-brief and leaving the cockpit; I experienced odor/fumes exposure symptoms. MedLink was contacted and MedLink medical personnel made the determination that I was not fit for continued duty. I then contacted the Duty Pilot; who advised Crew Services that I was removed from the remainder of the assignment.
