Narrative
During the climbout at XA:13 did the normal climb flow contacted departure they gave us climb to 11000 did climb check and at that time there was a rubber smell not to strong but present; the FO (First Officer) also noticed it; I reached for the engine bleeds and turned them off; called the FA (Flight Attendant) and she also said that there was a rubber smell if we had blown a tire; it by this time the smell was gone; we discussed if we should do the memory items but at that time there was nothing; we decided to return to ZZZ; called Departure [requested priority handling] and told them we would like to return; departure told us to level at 5000 and turned us to the down wind for [Runway[ XX ; we requested not to go in right away to have time to prepare the aircraft. Called the FA back did a [report] ; after that did a PA ; the FO was doing the radios and flying; asked ATC if they could forward the information to company and also contacted Dispatch; we discussed that we were going to be overweight but felt that we should land. Got landing data briefed the approach and landing did checklists; did another PA spoke with the FA; and come in for landing; normal landing monitor the descent rate; got off the runway at [Taxiway] XX fire trucks come over inspect the aircraft asked to open the cabin door we turned off engine #1 firefighters come on board found nothing; and we taxied to gate. Normal deplane.Should have done an overweight landing check; we even talked about being overweight and the need for a smooth landing.
