Synopsis
GA7-Cougar pilot reported a loss of control during taxi due to a tailwind gust of wind which pushed the aircraft into a skid and ultimately came to rest at just off the taxiway edge. No aircraft or property damage observed.
Narrative
On the morning of day 0; I taxied out of the FBO at ZZZ airport after receiving the ATIS and calling ground to do a run up. When my run up was complete; I was instructed to taxi to Runway XX; which at the time was said to have the most favorable winds. As I taxied out I noticed the windsock was showing almost headwind down Runway XX; but one that I'd face a tailwind while taxiing for departure. As I turned to taxi down on taxiway; I advanced my elevator as to mitigate risk of the tailwind and used minimal power to keep the aircraft moving. About halfway down; the airplane was hit by a gust of wind and I felt the tail get pushed. I immediately pulled power to idle and applied the brakes; while applying rudder to try maintain centerline. The brakes began to lock up and the airplane began to skid in a turn. With all of my efforts applied into regaining control the airplane continued and ultimate came to rest in the grass just off the taxiway edge. I followed appropriate shutdown and secure checklists and awaited airport ops for assistance and survey of the situation. No damage to the aircraft or airport property was found.
