WDB ACFT LOST RADIO RECEPTION EXCEPT FOR INTERMITTENT CONTACT WITH ANOTHER ACFT WHO RELAYED. FLC SQUAWKED 7600 THEN 7700; HAD GREEN LIGHT FOR LNDG.

Narrative

CRUISING AT FL370 FROM DEN TO IAH; LOST 2 WAY COM WITH ZFW NEAR MILLSAP (MQP) VOR. ALL COM HAD BEEN NORMAL UP TO THAT POINT. IT WAS NIGHT WITH LITTLE RADIO COM BTWN OTHER ACFT AND CENTER BUT IT SEEMED UNUSUALLY QUIET SO WE ATTEMPTED CONTACT WITH FORT WORTH ON THE ASSIGNED FREQ WITH NO LUCK. WE TRIED SEVERAL OTHER FREQS OFF OF THE HIGH CHART BEFORE FINDING ONE THAT WORKED INTERMITTENTLY WITH ZFW AND AN ACFT ALSO WORKING FORT WORTH. AS IT TURNED OUT; WE WERE XMITTING; BUT UNABLE TO RECEIVE ON EITHER RADIO EXCEPT INTERMITTENTLY. ZFW RELAYED DSCNT CLRNC THROUGH THE ONLY ACFT ON THE FREQ. AS WE DSNDED COMS BECAME MORE INTERMITTENT SO DECISION WAS MADE TO SQUAWK 7600 AND AS WE GOT TO LOWER ALTS SQUAWK WAS CHANGED TO 7700 TO INSURE CLR ARR SPACE. AT IAH WE FLEW TO THE VOR AND EXECUTED THE COMPLETE ILS 14L APCH. ON SHORT FINAL WE AGAIN MADE CONTACT WITH THE ACFT ON OUR FREQ AND HAD ZFW ASK IAH TWR FOR GREEN LNDG LIGHT. THE GREEN LIGHT WAS VISIBLE AT APPROX 3 MI BUT VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND AMONG ALL THE OTHER ARPT LIGHTS. WE COMPLETED A SAFE APCH AND LNDG AND TURNED THE ACFT OVER TO MAINT AT THE GATE.
