Narrative
AFTER CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 35R AT STAPLETON INTL ARPT; THE CAPT FLYING; AND BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST COMPLETED; ALL GAUGES AND INSTS INDICATING NORMAL AND SMOOTH TKOF ROLL; AT ABOUT 40 KTS A CAUTION CHIME SOUNDED AND AMBER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE CCAS (CREW ALERTING SYS) AND LCL AMBER LIGHT ON THE OVERHEAD SYS PANEL. CCAS ILLUMINATED 'DOOR'. OVERHEAD PANEL ILLUMINATED 'UNLCK' (UNLOCK) UNDER CARGO DOOR. FO CALLED 'ABORT; CARGO DOOR UNLOCK.' THE CAPT RETARDED THE PWR LEVERS AND APPLIED BRAKES SMOOTHLY. FO NOTIFIED TWR OF ABORTED TKOF AND NEED TO RETURN TO THE GATE. UPON ARR AT THE GATE; THE CAPT SHUT DOWN THE #1 ENG; THE RAMP PERSONNEL OPENED AND CLOSED THE CARGO DOOR. THE UNLOCK LIGHT EXTINGUISHED. THE CAPT HAD DENVER OPS CALL HOUSTON SYSTEMS CTL 3 TIMES AND COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THEM. HE THEN HAD DENVER OPS CALL MAINT TO RELEASE THE ACFT. THEY DID THROUGH DENVER OPS AND WE LEFT THE GATE; TAXIED BACK TO RWY 35L AND TOOK OFF. THE TKOF WAS NORMAL. UPON SUBSEQUENT CONTACT WITH HOUSTON SYSTEMS CTL; DISPATCH APPROVED OF THE PROC DUE TO COMS FAILURE. THE PROCS USED WERE: ATR ACFT OPS MANUAL. ABNORMAL PROCS; INTRODUCTION; GENERAL; PARAGRAPH 2 (PG 3- 1) 'A FLC DISCRETION; 1 RESET OF A SYS FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH AN AMBER CAUTION MAY BE PERFORMED PRIOR TO PERFORMING THE ASSOCIATED FAILURE PROCS.' FLT OPS MANUAL ABNORMAL PROCS; SUBJECT A-9 (PG 2-7. 'DURING 2-WAY RADIO COMS FAILURE; WHEN CONFRONTED BY A SITUATION NOT COVERED IN THE REG; PLTS ARE EXPECTED TO EXERCISE GOOD JUDGEMENT IN WHATEVER ACTION THEY ELECT TO TAKE.'
