GA SMA ALTDEV TRACK HDG DEV ON GAR FROM IAP ILS APCH THAT GOT AWAY FROM THE RPTR.

Narrative

MY WIFE; BABY AND I WERE FLYING FOR 3 HRS. IMC HAD BEEN CLOUD BANK FOR 40 MINS. #1 NAV/COM INTERMITTENT. RECEIVED INSTRUCTIONS FOR ILS RWY AT YNG. SET UP RADIOS (#1 WORKING AT THIS TIME); TRIMMED PLANE FOR DSCNT. APCH CTL SAID I BLEW THROUGH LOC. GS DIDN'T COME IN EITHER. MISSED APCH TO VOR APCH ON BOTTOM RADIO. BLEW LOC AGAIN; NEVER PICKED UP SIGNAL. THIRD ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW. AT THIS TIME I HAD VERTIGO VERY BADLY. I HAD FAILED TO READJUST THIS TRIM ON MISSED APCH BECAUSE I WAS FOOLING WITH NEW FREQ AND SETTINGS ON RADIO. AS A RESULT I HAD TO GIVE ALL CONCENTRATION TO A PITCH PROBLEM THAT HAD DEVELOPED. AT ONE POINT; I WAS GAINING/LOOSING APPROX 500-700 FT WITH EACH PITCH. AT ONE POINT I FELT THE PLANE WAS GOING TO STALL. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE PLANE PITCHED PROPERLY MY ALT WAS OFF BY OVER 300 FT. QUERY FROM CTL TO MAINTAIN 3000 FT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY ME; BUT MY CONCENTRATION ON OTHER FACTORS (HDG; RADIOS; VECTOR COMPLIANCE; CRYING BABY; PANICKED WIFE) KEPT ME FROM CHANGING THE ALT I WAS PRESENTLY AT; 2600 FT. FRANKLY; I WAS SCARED ANOTHER PITCH PROBLEM WOULD DEVELOP. FLT ENDED UP IN A 'NO GYROSCOPE' ASR APCH WITH VISIBLE IDENT OF RWY ON FINAL. ALL OF THIS TOOK PLACE IN SOLID CLOUD COVER.
