GA SMA LANDED GEAR UP BECAUSE PLT COULD NOT ACCOMPLISH ALTERNATE GEAR EXTENSION.

Narrative

SMA ON A PRESALE INSPECTION POPPED LNDG GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER AFTER TAKING OFF FROM I77. WORKED WITH BREAKER TO NO AVAIL. CONTINUED TO POP. DID A FLY BY AT LUNKEN AND THEY CONFIRMED NO GEAR. PLT WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH EMER GEAR EXTENSION PROC AND TWR HELPED TALK PLT THROUGH PROC TO NO AVAIL. EMER GEAR PROC IS COMPLICATED AND PROBLEMATIC. PLANE WAS NEVER OPERATED SLOW ENOUGH TO LOCK GEAR INTO POS. AS DUSK APCHED AND AFTER 45 MINS OF ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY PROBLEM; DECISION WAS MADE TO LAND. LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED GEAR UP WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE TO ACFT. 10 HRS AND 1 YR PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THE SAME ACFT HAD THE SAME GEAR UP INCIDENT IN VERO BEACH; FL. UPON INSPECTION AFTER THE INCIDENT; THE GEAR OPERATED NORMALLY. I SUGGEST AS PART OF ANY CHK OUT IN THIS SMA; THAT AN EMER GEAR EXTENSION BE MANDATORY. ADDITIONALLY; NAV LIGHTS SHOULD NOT DIM GEAR LIGHTS. THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY AN INTERMITTENT RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE GEAR MOTOR OR CIRCUIT BREAKER. THIS HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED. THE SITUATION WAS COMPOUNDED BY THE PLT'S INEXPERIENCE IN THE TYPE/MODEL AND LACK OF PROPER TRAINING. DAMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN MITIGATED WITH PROPER TRAINING PROGRAM.
