PLT ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT DEP FOR CLRNC THROUGH ARSA WAS TOLD WRONG FREQ. WHILE CONTACTING SECOND FREQ CLBED ABOVE ARSA FLOOR.
Narrative
I DEPARTED CHINO VFR AND PLANNED TO PICK UP AN IFR IN VFR CONDITIONS BACK TO BURBANK. ON INITIAL CLB; I TURNED TOWARDS POMONA VOR TO STAY CLR OF LA TCA. I CONTACTED ONTARIO APCH ON THE WRONG FREQ FOR THAT RTE OF FLT. THE CORRECT FREQ IS 125.5; I CALLED ON 135.4. IF YOU LOOK AT THE TCA CHART; 135.4 LOOKS AS IF IT IS THE PROPER FREQ FOR THAT AREA. I DID HOWEVER MAKE RADIO CONTACT WITH THE CTLR WHO USED MY N NUMBER AND INFORMED ME THAT I WAS ON THE WRONG FREQ AND SUGGESTED 125.5. WHEN I CALLED 125.5; THE CTLR WAS BUSY TALKING TO AN AIRLINER (NAME OF WHICH I CAN'T RECALL) AND WAS ASKING THE AIRLINER IF HE COULD IDENT ME. I IMMEDIATELY IDENTED MYSELF TO THE CTLR WHO INFORMED ME I WAS NOT WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. I INFORMED THE CTLR OF MY MISTAKE OF CONTACTING THE WRONG FREQ. HE TOLD ME TO 'READ MY MAP BETTER' AND THAT WAS ALL. I ALSO ASKED FOR A SQUAWK CODE BACK TO BURBANK; AND WAS GIVEN ONE. I REALIZE MY MISTAKE; BUT AS A SUGGESTION; YOU MIGHT WANT TO MAKE THE ARSA ALT 50/27 LARGER ON THE CHART; AND PUT THE 125.5 SECTOR FREQ CLOSER TO CHINO OR PUT AN ADDITIONAL 125.5 FREQ BTWN CHINO AND POMONA VOR. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS SITUATION WITH THE OTHER CFI'S AND THEY ALSO BELIEVE THIS IS AN EASY SITUATION TO STUMBLE INTO.
