Narrative
I CALLED MCGUIRE APCH CTL AND ASKED THEM TO ARRANGE A HDOF TO KENNEDY TO CROSS THROUGH KENNEDY TCA AT 2500 FT ON VICTOR 1 DIRECT JFK AND DIRECT HFD. FLYING TOWARD JFK MY DME SAID 30 NM AT WHICH TIME I AGAIN CONTACTED MCGUIRE ON THE ASSIGNED FREQ AS WELL AS THE PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED FREQ TO NO AVAIL. I THEN NOTICED THE XMIT LIGHT WAS STEADY ON; ON BOTH RADIOS. I DETERMINED IT MUST BE A STUCK MICROPHONE BUTTON WHICH I CHKED AND IT APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY; WITH A VISUAL INSPECTION. I THEN CHKED MY HANDHELD MICROPHONE WHICH WAS BTWN THE SEATS AND FOUND THAT DUE TO THE SEVERE TURB WE HAD HIT THAT DAY; THE HANDHELD MICROPHONE HAD JUMPED OUT OF ITS HOLDER AND WAS WEDGED BTWN THE SEATS WITH THE BUTTON ON. I CORRECTED THIS; CALLED MCGUIRE AND HE HANDED ME OFF TO KENNEDY APCH AT THAT TIME. WHEN I FOUND I WAS APCHING THE TCA AND TALKING WITH MCGUIRE; I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A 180 DEG TURN; THEN I WAS HANDED OFF TO KENNEDY APCH. THE CTLR I CONTACTED WAS EXTREMELY UPSET WITH ME AND I DIDN'T FEEL IT WAS APPROPRIATE TO HAVE A DISCUSSION OVER THE RADIO. I; AT THAT TIME; WAS HANDED OVER TO ANOTHER CTLR IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE WX WAS EXCELLENT VFR AND THERE WERE NO CONFLICTS WITH OTHER TFC TO MY KNOWLEDGE. AS PIC I UNDERSTAND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLT BUT SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENED WHICH HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. FLYING CONTINUES TO TEACH US AND I LEARNED FROM THIS INCIDENT TO UNPLUG MICROPHONES IN ANY TURB DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. I FEEL IT ADVISABLE TO INFORM OTHER PLTS OF MY PROBLEM. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL IN SPITE OF THE HEADWINDS AND SEVERE TURB.
