Synopsis

EMB-145 flight crew reported Stick Shaker activation during departure climb.

Narrative

Departing ZZZ; there were thunderstorms all round the airport that we were deviating around. We were experiencing continuous moderate turbulence on the climb out. It was my leg; VS mode and speed mode were not holding the speed. I put the aircraft into Pitch mode to hold the airspeed while adjusting the pitch to keep the aircraft around 200 KIAS under 10;000 ft. As we passed 14;000 ft. at 200 KIAS and we experienced a loss of airspeed due to some pretty big hits of turbulence. The speed dropped to about 183 or so. The PLI came down and activated the stick shaker for a second that kicked off the autopilot. I was actively on the controls already. I lowered the AOA and hand flew the plane out of the conditions. We were clear of the buildups within a few minutes of this happening. In hind sight I was fixated on the 200 knot limitation below 10;000 ft. I should have increased the airspeed to at least 220 above 10;000 ft. and hand flew it until clear. In the future I need to be more vigilant on the airspeed with relation to altitude and turbulence. Also could have turned off the automation to alleviate the lag in pitch.
