ACR MLG CLOSE PROX WITH UNKNOWN ACFT WHILE ON A VISUAL APCH TO DFW. IT WAS THE SECOND APCH BECAUSE THE FLC HAD MADE A GAR FROM SHORT FINAL ON THE FIRST APCH BECAUSE OF 2 JET ACFT XING THE LNDG RWY.

Narrative

ON FINAL APCH TO 35R INTO DFW ARPT WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 25R; WHEN AT APPROX 700 FT AGL DFW TWR CLRED 2 HVY JETS TO CROSS 35R; AT 200 FT AGL NEITHER ACFT WAS MORE THAN HALFWAY ACROSS THE RWY SO WE DECIDED TO EXECUTE A MISSED APCH. OUR INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO CLB ON A 360 DEG HDG UP TO 3000 FT; WE THEN WERE GIVEN A TURN TO THE E AND TO MAINTAIN 6000 FT. AFTER REACHING 6000 FT AND BEING RADAR VECTORED FOR STADIUM VISUAL APCH TO DFW THEY TOLD US TO DSND TO 4000 FT AND PICK UP A SOUTHERLY HDG. APCH CTL THEN CLRED US DOWN TO 3000 FT WITH A TURN SW. THEY THEN CLRED US FOR THE STADIUM VISUAL APCH TO RWY 31R AT DFW. SHORTLY AFTER BEING CLRED FOR THE STADIUM VISUAL APCH; APCH CTL ISSUED US TFC AT 11-12 O'CLOCK AND 4000 FT. CONTINUING ON THE APCH LOOKING FOR THE TFC WE SPOTTED THE ACFT PASSING OVER THE TOP OF US. OUR ALT AT THE TIME WAS 3250 FT DSNDING ON THE VISUAL APCH. GIVEN BOTH THE ACFT ALTS THERE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN A TRUE CONFLICT; HOWEVER IT APPEARED ALARMING GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT HAD TAKEN PLACE. THE FEMALE CTLR AT THE TIME THAT ISSUED US THE LNDG CLRNC AS WELL AS THE APCH CTLR SEEMED VERY LOADED DOWN AND CONFUSED WITH THE GIVEN TFC SITUATION/XING TFC ON 35/AND THE WHOLE GAR PROCESS AND HOW WE COULD BE WORKED INTO THE PLAN ONCE MORE DURING THIS BUSY TIME OF DAY.
