PLT INFLT CHANGE OF PLANS ENDS UP WITH AN UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE AND AN UNAUTH LNDG AT A CTLED ARPT.

Narrative

AFTER DEPARTING LOVE FIELD (DAL) ON AN IFR FLT PLAN TO F71 FORT WORTH LUCK FIELD I CROSSED DFW AT 4000 FT WORKING ATC/DALLAS REGIONAL CTL. FROM THAT POINT I RECEIVED VECTORS TO F71 LUCK FIELD. STARTING MY DSCNT; ATC POINTED OUT LUCK FIELD 7 MI AHEAD AT MY 12 O'CLOCK POS WITH NO TFC OBSERVED. AT THAT POINT I CANCELLED IFR AND CHANGED TO UNICOM TO ANNOUNCE MY ARR AND GET AN ARPT ADVISORY. AT THAT POINT I SPOTTED FWS AIRFIELD LESS THAN 5 MI AWAY WITH A MUCH BETTER RWY AND CLOSER TO MY BUSINESS APPOINTMENT. AFTER CHKING MY CURRENT FLT GUIDE (3/91) AND CURRENT WAC CHART (THE 20TH EDITION 7/25/91). I CHANGED MY RADIO TO 122.7; ASKED FOR ADVISORY (AND GOT NONE) AND ANNOUNCED MY POS ALL THE WAY TO LNDG. SPINKS HAD 3 PLANES ON THE ENTIRE RAMP AND 2 PLANES IN THERE ONE HANGAR! TO MY SURPRISE; I GOT A CALL WHEN I WALKED INTO THE FBO TO FIND OUT THAT THEY HAD AN OPERATIONAL CTL TWR (8:00-17:00). THE CTL INFORMED ME THAT THE TWR HAD BEEN OPERATIONAL FOR 3 MONTHS AND THEY WERE TRYING TO GET EVERYONE NOTIFIED OF THEIR EXISTENCE. THIS WAS ALSO MY FIRST TRIP TO FORT WORTH AREA. UPON DEP; I FILED AN IFR FLT PLAN TO HOUSTON AND RECEIVED CLRNC FROM HIM; AND DEPARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
