Synopsis
Captain reported an EGPWS malfunction on approach due to suspected 5G interference.
Narrative
5G anomalous event. At 5500 ft. just west of JWARD on heading 280 vectors to final; above the marine layer overcast; with all mountainous terrain in sight; the EGPWS system briefly called out 'ten' twice. Just after intercepting the LOC 20R final just outside of HUKEM at around 3300 ft. the EGPWS system began to continuously call out 'ten...ten...ten' followed shortly thereafter with 'gear; too low; gear...ten...ten...ten...too low; gear'. These callouts occurred continuously from 3300 ft. down to 2000 ft. At LEMON at which time I called for gear down. Once the gear was down the 'too low gear' warnings stopped. While descending on final approach the 'ten...ten...ten' continued for a few more moments longer than stopped as well. Doing my own research into the 5G anomaly two years ago I was prepared for what to expect and how to respond. Basically we did not do anything to respond to this anomaly because we were on an approach; all systems were normal. The only thing I changed was to put the gear down a little earlier than normal to silence the gear squawking issue. WX at the time was 029OVC +10 (ie; marine layer a few 100 feet thick. Approach was briefed and completed as a visual to 20R.Though the 5G anomaly is not specifically dangerous to the operation of Aircraft X; dealing with the EGPWS inappropriate squawking was mildly distracting; it also took time for me to make a radio call to Tower to let them know about the event while still on final in case it might impact another crew more severely on their aircraft systems. To the FAA: How is it you allowed another federal agency to run ruffshod over your particular frequency domain??? Exactly what happened between you and the FCC? Though I mention that this anomaly is not specifically dangerous for the aircraft I fly; but any distraction that occurs in the cockpit during final approach can lead to a serious incident or accident in some other scenarios or WX conditions. 5G is obviously sneaking into and around airport operating areas here in the LA area.
