Narrative
I was the PM for takeoff on XXR at ZZZ. We were cleared for takeoff; and everything was normal from brake release to about 80 kts. Just when I was about to make the 80 kts. call; there was a loud bang; the aircraft shuddered and yawed significantly to the right. The Captain immediately rejected the take-off and used the rudder to the right to keep it on the runway. We slowed to a manageable speed (unknown; I wasn't looking anymore); and I saw engine fail displayed on the number 2 engine display with the EGT dropping. I called Tower to tell them we aborted the takeoff and requested to roll Airport Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles and we had a right engine failure. We exited the runway on taxiway x and held on y to assess and run checklists. The Captain told the passengers to remain seated. We also told Tower that they should check the runway for debris due to the engine failure. We ran the engine failure checklist and coordinated with Tower; fire trucks; Dispatch; Ops; passengers and Flight Attendants to make sure everything and everybody was okay. After about 15-20 minutes of coordination and checklists; we taxied back to the terminal; parked and allowed the passengers to deplane.
Second reporter narrative
During takeoff; prior to 80 kts; the pilots heard a loud bang and their #2 engine failed. They stopped the aircraft. They called for Airport Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF). They followed the QRH procedure and then monitored brake cooling procedures. The ARFF trucks escorted them to the gate. Debris from the engine failure was found on the runway.
