Synopsis

B737 NG flight crew reported they failed to get the Final DG Summary prior to brake release. The flight crew requested and received the Final DG Summary and notified Dispatch prior to pushback.

Narrative

As we initialized ACARS we were issued a preliminary DG (Dangerous Goods) summary. I briefed that we needed a final before we released the brakes and that we needed to acknowledge that we had received the final DG summary. About 10 minutes before departure we elected to deplane the aircraft as a tornado was approaching ZZZ. The terminal had issued shelter in place instructions and everyone was headed into the tunnel between terminal B and C. When we came back to the plane after the storm had passed we re-briefed our departure; redid our flows; and did another walk around. We closed the door and the ramp crew indicated they were ready for push. After we read the before push checklist I released the brakes. As soon as I did I remembered our DG that I had briefed hours earlier. I had forgotten about it in all the excitement. We also received an ACARS message advising to get the final DG summary. I informed the ground team that we needed our final DG and sent an ACARS miscellaneous request for it. We obtained it then pushed.

Second reporter narrative

Due to tornado warnings we had to depart all passengers and crew and proceed to hard shelters inside the airport after pre-flight was complete. In doing so; we forgot to accept the dangerous goods that were loaded once we returned to the airplane. We released the brakes for push back before accepting the dangerous goods.
