Synopsis

B737-800 Captain reported executing a rejected takeoff due to airspeed disagree message on primary flight display. Captain returned to gate for maintenance and brake cooling.

Narrative

We were cleared for takeoff at ZZZ Runway XXR. As we entered the runway; I told the FO (First Officer) I would do a rolling takeoff. As we rolled down the runway something caught my eye. A message on the PFD (primary flight display) 'airspeeds disagree'. The FO did not call '80 knots' yet. I retarded the throttles to idle and to my surprise the auto brakes became active. I was about to use reverse thrust; but the deceleration was too fast. I stowed the ground spoiler at taxi speed to release the auto brakes; and we cleared the runway. I made a public address to the passengers. I told the FO it must be considered a high speed abort since the auto brakes become active at 90 knots and the airplane would require an inspection. The FO contacted operations and maintenance. I checked the brake cooling chart and determined we were in the cooling recommended zone. As we went to a gate; I told the FO to shutdown engine 1 to avoid further heating of the brakes. Maintenance met as at the gate.We were probably about to go through 80 knots when the message appeared. In the time it took to analyze the message and bring the throttles to idle we must have been at 90 knots.
