Narrative
I WAS WELL RESTED AT THE START OF A PLANNED 2 HR; 20 MIN FLT (IFR) NASHVILLE; TN TO SPRINGDALE; ARK. WX WAS IMC AT SPRINGDALE-INDEFINITELY; 200; SKY OBSCURED 3/4 IN FOG MUCH OF MORNING-SCHEDULED TO IMPROVE. MEMPHIS CTR ADVISED NO DELAY EXPECTED-HOLD AT SPRAY INTXN. (XAOO); FAYETTEVILLE APCH ADVISED NOT TO EXPECT FURTHER CLRNC UNTIL (XA35). I ENTERED HOLDING PATTERN AND HELD ABOUT 35 MIN. FINALLY FAYETTEVILLE (NON-RADAR) GAVE ME OPTION TO TRACK 8 DME (RZC) ARC AND HOLD ON LOC OF 18 AT 8 DME FIX. SINCE FAYETTEVILLE WAS NON-RADAR-THEY ASKED ME TO RPT INTERCEPT OF ARC AND XING 45 DEG RADIAL OFF RZC. I WAS TOLD TO RPT ESTABLISHED IN THE LOC HOLDING PATTERN. I NORMALLY TUNE BOTH MY HSI AND #2 VOR INDICATOR'S RECEIVERS TO THE ILS; BUT IN ORDER TO USE MY RMI TO FLY THE ARC; I HAD #2 RECEIVER TUNED TO RAZORBACK. THE HSI WAS HAVING TROUBLE 'DECIDING' WHICH SIDE OF THE LOC I WAS ON AT ARC INTERCEPT-NOT UNCOMMON WHEN NOT CLOSE TO LOC COURSE. THE HSI SHOWED COURSE TO THE L (AS IT HAD STARTED OUT SHOWING) SO I WAS CONTINUING TO TRACK THE ARC WAITING FOR IT TO 'CORRECT' ITSELF AND SHOW COURSE TO THE R IN PREPARATION FOR INTERCEPT. FINALLY; FAYETTEVILLE ASKED IF I WAS ESTABLISHED IN HOLD YET; MY REPLY-'STILL TRACKING THE 8 DME ARC'-THEN I CROSS CHKED MY RMI-PAYING ATTN NOW TO THE RADIAL OF RZC; NOT JUST CONCENTRATING ON KEEPING NEEDLE ON L WING AND WATCHING HSI FOR INTERCEPT-I WAS ON THE-340 RADIAL (PAST THE LOC!) I IMMEDIATELY TURNED R AND MADE A WIDE TURN TO INTERCEPT THE LOC IN THE HOLD. (CONDITION-VMC ON TOP). CONTRIBUTING FACTORS-SOMEWHAT FATIGUED FOLLOWING 35 MIN HOLD-HSI INITIALLY SHOW COURSE TO WRONG SIDE-DO ALL (NAV TYPE) DO THIS? I'LL HAVE MINE CHKED. 1ST TIME TO FLY AN ARC OR HOLD IN YRS-NEXT TIME I'LL MONITOR MORE THAN ONE INST FOR POS (AND WATCH RMI BOTH FOR RADIAL I'M ON AND FOR STAYING ON ARC!)
